El Cenizo is located fifteen miles south of the city of Laredo on the banks of the Rio Grande River.
The community consists of some 800 households. The great majority of the families have extremely low incomes.
The colonia incorporated as the City of El Cenizo in 199_.
The colonia suffers from unpaved and poorly paved streets, a sewer system which is in very poor condition, lack of garbage collection and other basic city services.
The La Gloria development Corporation operates a model self-help housing program in the colonia.
