Gloria Romo is a graduate of The Midwest Academy and works as TxLIHIS’ Community Organizer in on the Texas-Mexico border. Gloria is a colonia resident and former farm worker. She has a long background in community service and organizing. Prior to joining TxLIHIS, Gloria taught farm workers about pesticide safety, founded a community newsletter as an organizing vehicle for obtaining infrastructure in the colonia where she lives, and as a member of her town council supported immigrants’ rights.

Gloria is currently working to reorganize the Border Low Income Housing Coalition (BLIHC) in order to address the severe housing and economic development problems on the border. Gloria recently organized residents of Webb County's two largest colonias to win a victory with their county government and stop a proposed hike in their water rates. Gloria is currently collaborating with Texas RioGrande Legal Aid and indigenous, grassroots leaders in Colonia La Hermosa (Webb County) to help residents obtain basic infrastructure such as water, electricity and sewer services.
