John Henneberger is one of the state's leading authorities on low-income housing issues. He holds a Bachelors degree in History from the University of Texas at Austin. Over the past 27 years, John has worked for low-income communities helping to establish eight nonprofit community development corporations that have built or rehabilitated over 500 homes. These community development corporations include Proyecto Azteca and the Amistad Housing Development Corporation. He is recognized as an innovator for combining housing with preservation strategies to effect comprehensive community revitalization.

John has drafted and secured passage of landmark state housing legislation in the areas of consumer rights, public housing resident representation, targeting of funds to very low-income housing needs, colonia initiatives and government transparency in the allocation of housing resources.

John's advocacy work won TxLIHIS the Texas Outstanding Public Service Award from his public interest colleagues. John is a past board member of the National Low Income Housing Coalition.
